The Montgomery Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated celebrated 65 years of service and leadership with the Montgomery community during its Royal Rose Affair: Honoring Our Past and Embracing Our Future, on February 8, 2020 at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
During the momentous occasion of celebrating the chapter’s 65th Anniversary, chapter members, associate members, prospective moms, and almost 100 Montgomery community guests enjoyed a viewing of the play The Agitators; a play highlighting the evolution of women’s rights and the friendship between Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglas. Immediately following the play, guests were entertained by a string quartet before enjoying an elegant lunch overlooking the Shakespeare pond. The highlight of the afternoon came when the Montgomery Chapter paid homage to its 33 founders, who organized the chapter in 1955 at the height of racial inequality, both in Montgomery and throughout the country. The chapter also honored its Jack and Jill’s history of service in the Montgomery Chapter by presenting the organization’s past presidents with a bouquet of roses. Associate members also received special recognition during the program and all quests at the event, received a special Tiffany’s and Company signature mug as a token of appreciation for sharing in the Royal Rose celebration.
“We are standing squarely on the shoulders of those Mothers who had a vision for this illustrious chapter, while embracing the ideas and principles for which this chapter was founded in 1955.” – Dr. Nichole Thompson, President, Montgomery Chapter of Jack and Jill of America.
